This little battery-powered instrument will deliver remarkable accuracy for a year or more on one small battery. (replaceable)
We test each instrument for several weeks to ensure accuracy.
Mount it above your thermostat to learn more about your air conditioner's capabilities of cooling and dehumidification performance.
- If it displays relative humidity at 59.9% or higher for more than a day or so, it may mean that your air conditioner needs service,
- Or it may mean that hot, humid outdoor air is leaking into your home through a poor air seal or concealed opening.
- An air conditioner that cools the air passing through it by 18 degrees F or more will dehumidify well. You can tape this instrument to an AC supply duct to find out. A reading or 56 degrees and 95% relative humidity indicates good air conditioner dehumidification function and cooling.
- This difference between the room air temperature and the temperature of the cooled air is called delta t and it is very important to preventing mold. As delta t becomes smaller than about 18 degrees, the less dry your home will remain. Wet homes grow mold and generate moldy odors. An air conditioner can cool without drying the air at all. This usually occurs when delta t goes below about 14 degrees.
